NC Education Code · Regulation
Title 16 — root / Chapter 06 — 16 NCAC 06G .0512
Plain English summary
This regulation establishes the purpose and definitions for the State Board of Education's Fast-Track Replication program, which allows qualifying non-profit charter school boards to replicate successful charter school models without undergoing the standard planning year. The SBE must render a final decision on fast-track replication applications within 120 days of submission, and applicants must complete a one-day basic training workshop provided by the Department of Public Instruction. The regulation also preserves the right of boards to pursue replication through the standard application process.
Key requirements
- The State Board of Education may grant permission for a non-profit corporation board of directors to replicate either its own successful model, or to employ an EMO or CMO to replicate a successful model currently being operated under the management of the EMO or CMO.
- The SBE may also grant permission for a non-profit corporation board to fast-track such a replication by foregoing the planning year normally required for approved charter applicants.
- Nothing in these Rules shall be construed to prohibit a North Carolina non-profit corporation board from applying to replicate another charter school through the regular application process in Rule .0508 of this Section and, upon approval, receive the planning year trainings from NCDPI.
- The fast-track applicant shall participate in a one-day basic training workshop that will be provided by the Department of Public Instruction.
- The State Board of Education shall make final decisions regarding fast-track replication applications in less than 120 days from the application submission.
