Out-of-state teacher applicants with fewer than three years of experience must pass NC State Board of Education approved licensure exams. An exception exists for applicants seeking an Initial Professional License (IPL) in teaching areas other than Elementary Education (ELED) or Early Childhood (ECGC), who may substitute scores from a comparable examination if the score meets or exceeds the test developer's recommended cut score for the year the exam was administered.
