NC 1501-6.3 Provision of Services for Parentally Placed Private School Children with

This regulation requires LEAs to provide special education and related services to children with disabilities whose parents have enrolled them in private or religious schools within the LEA's district. A services plan must be developed for each qualifying child, and for children transitioning from charter schools to private schools, the traditional LEA where the private school is located bears responsibility. LEAs must also maintain and report specific records to the SEA regarding these parentally placed private school children.
Key requirements
- Provision is made for the participation of children with disabilities enrolled by their parents in private, including religious, elementary schools and secondary schools located in the school district served by the LEA.
- A services plan must be developed and implemented for each private school child with a disability who has been designated by the LEA in which the private school is located to receive special education and related services.
- For children who leave a charter school and enroll in a private school, the services plan must be sought from the traditional LEA in which the private school is located.
